State to study genetic changes in dengue virus

The state has decided to conduct a research to find out whether any genetic changes have occurred to the dengue virus found in the state. For this the state health department has reached an agreement with the national virology institute in Pune, said health minister V S Sivakumar.
Meanwhile, the central team that reached here to review the fever situation in the state met health minister V S Sivakumar and held discussions. The team visited the fever hit areas of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the state government.
The team will submit a report to the union health ministry on the fever conditions in the state. They are also likely to collect the blood samples of certain dengue cases for detailed analysis.
The expert team comprising Dr Kalpana Baruva, joint director of the national vector borne disease control programme; Dr B V Tandale of national institute of virology Pune and Ratnakar Sahu of RML hospital, New Delhi visited the fever hit areas of Kollam on Sunday.
The team will visit Pathanamthitta on Monday and leave for New Delhi on Tuesday.
