The Industrial Coastal Corridor Vyatireka Porata Committee demanded the withdrawal of GO Ms No. 34, relating to the coastal corridor and Kakinada special economic zones. The committee will hold a public meeting at Visakhapatnam on May 3 to highlight the effects of these two on people and to take up an agitation for the cause of the affected. These details were disclosed by committee representative and state Human Rights Forum (HRF) secretary V.S. Krishna and others. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Krishna said that 2,000 acre of land assigned to dalits was also acquired for this purpose. This was in addition to affecting the interests of small and marginal farmers in the Kakinada special economic zone. The HRF secretary also demanded that natural resources not be disturbed on the pretext of industrial development. He said that a public awareness programme was launched on April 20. Mr Krishna also said that the coastal corridor was being developed between Srikakulam and Nellore districts, covering nine districts. This would affect the environment along the sea coast in addition to the livelihood of fishermen along the coast. Government was doing everything relating to this secretly. "We could not even get the information under the Right to Information Act," he alleged. The convenor of the committee, Mr K.S. Chalam, K. Rajendra, B. Viplava Kumar and others participated.
