States brace for fish kills after 'cell from hell' returns in N.C.

From the middle Atlantic states to coastal Florida, health officials are bracing for what some scientists say could be another rough year which will see an increase in pfiesteria-like microbes around the US leading to fish kills. Weather and water conditions through the spring and summer have again been perfect this year for pfiesteria, which thrives in warm, poorly flushed estuarine waters rich in nutrients from sewage plants, fertilizer and livestock waste.
