State's land for poor scheme is a farce: Naidu Hyderabad, March 18: The Opposition on Tuesday termed the state government's land distribution programme for the poor a big farce. However, the government defended the programme vigorously as a progressive one. The debate over the issue veered into a heated exchange of words after the Opposition leader, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, alleged that the family of the revenue minister, Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao, had indulged in land-grabbing. "Thousands of acres of government land worth thousands of crores of rupees have been handed on a platter to rich people and real-estate developers,' he said. "The revenue minister's family has grabbed even hills in Srikakulam district in the name of mining.' Mr Dharmana termed it a malicious allegation and said most people in the district were engaged in granite mining. "If I start revealing facts about your acts, you will run away from the House,' he told Mr Naidu. The CPM, the CPI, the CPI-ML and the BJP walked out of the House protesting the failure to distribute land to the poor. Though the TD also protested strongly, it did not walk out. Mr Gummadi Narsaiah of the CPI-ML had raised the issue during the Question Hour.
