It's state vs Centre, yet again--at a time when the two need to come together to save an already threatened environment. For some time now, Madhya Pradesh has been trying to gear up for battle against the Forest (Conservation) Act, pressing for a more people -centric approach and delegation of powers to states as the Union government, propped by a supportive Supreme Court order, stands firm against any dilution of the law--so far at least.
