Step-farming becoming non-profitable for farmers

The continued absence of a working scientific system of agriculture management in Uttarakhand for more than eight years after State formation has resulted in creating a situation in which the traditional step-farming method is providing a non-profitable enterprise for the native farmers. It is pertinent to mention that more than eight years after formation of Uttarakhand as a new State, the Government agriculture policy is considered not attuned to the existing geographical and socio-economic conditions in Uttarakhand. The irony is not lost on farmers who fail to harvest crops in adequate quantity due to lack of irrigation facility in the mountainous regions where the sources of many of the nation
