Steps to boost States industrial growth

Asserting that Assam was at the centre of the Government of India's policy of industrial promotion, Union Minister of State for Industry Dr Ashwani Kumar today said that a slew of initiatives including clearance of transport subsidy, increasing capital subsidy component, etc., were being initiated for boosting the industrial growth in the State as well as the North-east. "Accumulated transport subsidy worth Rs 770 crore has been released for the North-east in 2007-08 alone. Every single claim of transport subsidy as on March 31, 2007 stands cleared,' Dr Kumar said at a press conference. Dr Kumar said that as against the release of Rs 1,287 crore transport subsidy in 33 years since 1971, Rs 770 crore had been released in four years of the UPA Government.
