The efforts of the Bombay high court and the Bombay Environmental Action Group (BEAG) over the last two years to curb deforestation in the Mahabaleshwar Panchgani plateau seem to be paying off painfully slowly, if at all. A tour of the area more than a year after the court issued a series of directives for the environmental protection of the region at the behest of the BEAG throws up a disappointing progress card.
