As part of its efforts to supply electricity of high quality free from disruptions to the residents of the State Capital, Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam has started installing 8 MVA power transformers at prime locations here. The first such transformer was installed at the Residency sub-station here on Monday. Jaipur discom Chairman and Managing Director R. G. Gupta said an extensive network of 8 MVA transformers would be established across the Pink City to replace the existing 5 MVA converters. The electricity supply was often interrupted with the 5 MVA transformers breaking down on an unexpected increase in load. Mr. Gupta said a total of 35 new transformers would be installed this year in both the Walled City of Jaipur and the residential colonies in other areas. The Jaipur discom will spend Rs.14.70 crore on the establishment of the new network, with an expenditure of Rs.42 lakh involved in the installation of each transformer. The creation of the new system will also facilitate regular power supply to the city through the 33 KVA feeder instead of the 11 KVA feeder at present. Mr. Gupta affirmed that this would not only provide electricity of good quality to the consumers but would also drastically reduce transmission and distribution losses. The Jaipur discom is working with the target of reducing T&D losses from the present 13 per cent to 8 per cent this year.
