A state level agitation against the alleged expansion activities of prawn farms along the coast would be organised on August 28 by Campaign Against Shrimp Industries, a voluntary organisation.Ms. Jesu Rathinam, Convenor of the Campaign in a press release here today said that the agitation would be held on August 28 in front of district Collectorates of coastal districts like Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram etc. As a prelude to this agitations would be held in front of the Nagapattinam district Collectorate and Tahsildar offices at Sirkali and Porayar in Nagapattinam district on August 27 demanding restoration of land affected by prawn farms to farmers, payment of compensation by Aquaculture Authority, and implementation of coastal regulation.
