'Stop deforestation for development'

  • 11/01/1999

Speakers at a seminar in Dhaka yesterday cautioned that the country's future development would be hampered if indiscriminate deforestation is not stopped immediately, reports UNB. The reserve forests of Bangladesh are being destroyed widely to meet various commercial needs, creating adverse impact on the ecology and causing set-back to the national economy, they said, addressing a seminar on "Land, Forest and Environment." Organised by Society for Environment and Human Development (SEHD), the seminar was held at the German Cultural Center with Dr Shakhawat Ali Khan in the chair.
