A hailstorm swept through eight villages of Monohardi upazila of the district on Monday night, leaving a man dead and 50 others injured. The dead was identified as Sahabuddin, 50, a quack of Goribhanga village of the upazila. Sources said Sahabuddin was injured seriously when a tree fell on him during the storm at about 7:30pm. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at night. Standing crops on vast tracts of land and over 100 houses were also damaged by the storm that lashed Chalar Char, Goribhanga, Peerpur, Piekan, Aluakandi, Beergao and Dumonmara villages of the upazila. The injured were admitted to upazila health complex and different hospitals.
