The Government has decided to encourage development of clusters of small hydro power projects in the north-eastern States to make the area a net exporter of power to other parts of the country. The Power Minister, Mr. P.R. Kumaramangalam, has asked the State-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation to prepare a detailed project report for having such small power plants supply power to the local area and export surpluses to the proposed national grid.
