Concerned over growing pollution, the Supreme Court on Thursday banned registration of all private non-commercail vehicles not complying with Euro-II emission norms in the National Capital Region from April 1,2000.The court, however, permitted registration of only 1,500 vehicles every month on first come first serve basis subject to conformity with Euro-I standards. The order by the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justic A.S.Anand would force auto manufacturers in India to adopt Euro-II norms in the next 11 months as against the year 2005 notified by the Central government.
