With the promotion of tourism industry in Kullu Valley in general and the picturesque tourist town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh in particular, a large number of hotel projects have come up subsequently for the last over two decades. According to the sources, before the Christmas eve, green saplings of deodar trees are felled by some of the hoteliers to be used as Christmas trees. The felling of deodar saplings on the Christmas eve has been resulting in environmental degradation and ecological imbalance in the upper Kullu valley. It has been causing a considerable loss to the forest wealth in the picturesque Manali region.
