A majority of the vegetable samples tested throughout the state by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) scientist have been found to be contaminated with pesticides. PAU scientists also found 87 samples of Basmati rice and all the 10 samples of milk they tested contaminated. Nine of the rice samples exceeded the permissible levels of gamma-HCH, an organochlorine compound that does not break down even after cooking.
