Study of environment in villages of Poinguinim and Loliem commences

Canacona: 'Dakshin Foundation' entrusted with environmental study in South Goa. Government of Goa has entrusted the study of environment in the villages of Poinguinim and Loliem in South Goa to ‘Dakshin’ a Bangalore based NGO. A team of researchers are camping at Galgibagha and interacting with locals as well as visiting biological hot spots in the villages. A detailed study report will be submitted to Goa government by November. Southern parts of Goa which includes the villages of Poinguinim and Loliem-Polem are of ecological importance as there is a beach reserved for turtle nesting, there are three plateaus with a large area of lakhs of square meters of pristine land which sustains unique flora and fauna apart from acting as a breeding ground for Indian Bull frog. A team of researchers and scientists from Dakshin, a NGO with its head office at Bangalore is working with the Goa government to study and document the beaches, mangrove forests vis-à-vis their impact on the livelihood of local inhabitants.
