Study policy change to help Mumbai grow vertical, CM tells MMRDA

Mumbai, September 10 Months after visiting World Bank officials suggested that laws should be changed to allow Mumbai grow vertically like New York, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday asked the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to conduct a study on the policies to be adopted for such a development.
He was speaking at a meeting of the MMRDA, which also discussed key projects like Sewri-Nhava Shewa Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), Mumbai Metro, monorail and construction of two feeder flyovers for the under-construction Bandra-Worli sea link being.
In December last year, senior World Bank officials, who were in Mumbai for meetings with government officials, had advocated an FSI policy like New York. Bank officials had said that Mumbai can be transformed into a world-class city, but there are too many laws that need to be amended
