State transport minister Mr Subhas Chakraborty today admitted that vehicles belonging to Kolkata Municipal Corporation, police, CSTC and to his department were the most polluting. During question hour in the Legislative Assembly this morning, Mr Chakraborty said that recently, 119 CSTC buses were fined for violating emission norms.
Mr Chakraborty said the agencies that conduct on-the-spot emission tests stop private cars and allow government vehicles to go. Also, there are no provisions to check emission levels of government buses that come in from neighbouring districts. The state government will shortly bring in more stringent tests for government vehicles.
