Sundargarh district sweats at 43.5 C

ROURKELA: A severe heat wave hit Sundargarh district with temperature soaring to 43.5 degree Celsius on Thursday at Sundargarh town. Rourkela city, about 100 km from Sundargarh, was a little cooler at 42.8 degree C. Mercury surged upward in the past couple of days leaving the citizens distressed. Fortunately, no sunstroke related casualty has been reported. Sources said people were spared of the sizzling heat in April as intermittent rains cooled down the heat. In May, mercury at Rourkela crossed 41 C while on May 4 drizzles brought some solace. But, there has been no let-up since the mercury gradually rose from 40 degree C on Monday to 43.5 degree C on two consecutive days of Wednesday and Thursday. The blistering heat has forced people to reschedule their working hours while the district administration has switched on to the precautionary mode. The District Emergency Office (DEO) said no
