Tourism has become a part of Bankura ever since other parts of the state came to know about places like Jhilimili, Mukutmonipur, Bishnupur. The district has been trying for the past few years to woo the tourists who would be interested in exploring the unique natural beauty of Bankura. Last week a new tourist destination, Sunukpahari was added to the district tourism map. The Mukutmonipur-Jhilimili circuit has become the most attractive tourist site in the district. The second biggest earthen dam of India, Mukutmonipur is 55 km away from Bankura District Headquarters and situated in the confluence of river Kangsabati and Kumari. Green forest surrounds the vast bluish tract of water, hillocks are essentially a dream come here. The place is well-known for its superb natural beauty. The undulating terrain along the southern edge of the Kangsabati Water Reservoir spreads as a three-dimensional necklace of green and terracotta colour. The stand-still water of the reservoir looks like a large blue tinted glass mirror reflecting the vast expanse of sky over it. Jhilimili is situated 70 km away from Bankura town. It represents the beauty of an undisturbed dense natural forest. A travel from Ranibandh to Jhilimili offers a wonderful exposure to spectacular forest of varying heights on both sides of the route, and finally reaching Jhilimili on the top of a hillock. The sparkle of micaceous soil adds to the beauty of the environment. Sunukpahari ~ a place barely 10 km from Bankura district town is the latest tourist destination in Bankura. The place is surrounded by rocky hillocks with a hill top and the view of vast open sky. DM, Bankura, Mr Surendra Gupta said: "The local panchayat Samiti has erected the spot which has been handed over to 30 Self Help Groups for regular maintenance and operation.'
