A total of 1.12 lakh families will be evicted from forest land in Karnataka if the Supreme Court passes its final orders on forest land encroachment, according to Minister of Forests, Ecology and Environment K H Ranganath. Replying to a question raised in the Legislative Council by Mr Ramachandragowda (Graduates' constituency), Mr Ranganath said the State government had worked out measures to support the families that will be affected after the Supreme Court gives its final decision. "A cabinet sub-committee has already been formed to look into the issue. As the matter is before the Supreme Court, we will not make any statement,' he said. The actual forest area that has been encroached adds up to 91,902.45 acres, he added.
