The Supreme Court issued notice to the Kerala Government and the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation on a special leave petition filed by the Association for Environment Protection challenging construction of a restaurant encroaching the riverbed of Periyar river, near Kaladi. A three-Judge Bench comprising Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal, Justice C.K. Thakker and Justice R.V. Raveendran, issued the notice after hearing counsel R. Nedumaran, who alleged that the construction was being made in violation of all environment norms.
