The country is heading for a surplus of over two million tonne of diesel by end-March next year. At the moment, diesel continues to be in short supply and imports continue. At a recent discussions between the Union ministers for power and petroleum, power minister P R Kumaramangalam had demanded that combined cycle power plants be allocated diesel in place of liquid fuels. Petroleum minister V K Ramamurthy was reportedly favourably disposed to the proposal.
