An Indo-French team of scientists has for the first time established that genes in chromosomes have a "switch on and off" system working through the RNA interference (RNAi), which plays a vital role in development of the animal and human body. "Genes in chromosomes switch on and off like electrical switches and play a role in the development of body. Genes placed in two different areas normally express, but when they require to switch off in the developmental body part, they come closer", said Utpal Bhadra of the Hyderabad Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB). He was one of the Indian scientists working on this project with French scientists.
