The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) has decided to upgrade the first 2X540 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) Tarapur Atomic Power Project (TAPP III&IV) to 700 MW as part of its new strategy to do away with the 540-MW range altogether. The upgradation plan for the project, originally scheduled for completion by the year 2006-2007, has entered the "full-fledged designing stage", according to Mr S.A. Bohra, Senior Executive Director (Technical), NPCIL.
