In its effort to increase and maintain the green cover of Jamshedpur, Tata Steel has decided to plant more trees in 2015. Preserving and improving on the green cover of the steel city by planting trees several times is the green mantra of the company.
Officials of the company informed that the green cover in Jamshedpur is 26.8 per cent of total area and already more than 10,000 saplings have been planted in 2014.
The company has decided to plant 50,000 trees for next three years. For every sacrificed tree, 10 trees are being planned to be planted back once the roads are ready. Taking steps in this direction, Jusco, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel, along with Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL) took up the tree plantation drive in the eastern part of the township.
The plantation drive was taken up near TCIL Hospital. Around 300 saplings were planted. Ashish Mathur, MD, JUSCO along with Rakeshwar Pandey, president, Tinplate Mazdoor Union, were present.
“The objective behind drive is not only to increase the green cover but a holistic development of Jamshedpur with improved municipal solid waste management, wider road network, zero waste water discharge, smart energy, etc. Tata Steel has always strived to provide best-in-class civic services at Jamshedpur. These services include water management, power distribution, MSW management, street lights, horticulture and road development and maintenance for which Jamshedpur has been rated amongst the best in several third party surveys,” said Rajesh Rajan, chief, corporate communications, JUSCO.
