Tenders for Godavari water supply: Ponnala

The minister for major irrigation, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, said on Thursday that tenders wo-uld be soon called to launch a water project to supply Godavari water to seven mandals in Mulug division. The minister said government was keen to fulfil the wish of the division peoples' long-pending demand for supply of Godavari water. "Though the Godavari pa-sses through their area, Mulug people did not have access to river water till now,' Mr Lakshmaiah added. Addressing the rythu sadassu meet at Mulug, he said as soon as the tender process was completed, government would expedite works on the project. He said modern agricultural methods like drip and sprinkler irrigation would be promoted in a big way with huge subsidies on inputs. Referring to the payment of compensation to farmers who lost their crops during the untimely rains, Mr Lakshmaiah said Rs 9.5 crore was already distributed to these farmers. He said the loan waiver scheme had helped 28 lakh farmers in the district. Stipends to best farmers, training program-mes, rythu sadassus and free power to farmers were amo-ng some major initiatives for them. Collector, Mr B. Janardhan Reddy, Mulug MLA, Mr Podem Veeraiah and others were present.
