Bastar Adivasis Get A Pittance; Reds, Officials Make Money In Tandem
Raipur: In inky blue darkness, Bargu and Sunita stir their children out of slumber and drag them to the forest. As dawn breaks, the family gets down to work, plucking leaves from short bushes, short enough for even four-year-old Ramesh to pitch in.
They work 12 hours a day, collecting and bundling leaves for beedis, but not before they have delivered to the family, like lakhs of other adivasis in Bastar, their annual earnings
