Jupiter's weather is more exciting than Earth's - with wind speeds up to 540kph, storms that last for decades and at least three sorts of rain-but its atmosphere is thought to work in basically the same way as Earth's . Results presented by Fred Taylor of Oxford University support the view. Jupiter's main layer of cloud is composed of ammonia. But above it is a thick smog, made by organic compounds broken up by the sunlight.
