I am an engineer by training and have spent over a decade working in the water sector. Over the years. I have analysed, researched and documented national as well as international policies and practices on water management. I am a firm believer in community-based water management systems, and I have advocated right-based, people-centric policies for sustainable water management," says Suresh Babu S.V., programme manager (communications and advocacy) with Arghyam, a Bangalore-based charitable foundation that supports strategic and sustainable efforts to enhance equity in access to safe water. Before joining Arghyam, Suresh was coordinator, river water, at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in Delhi. He advocates cross-pollination of conventional wisdom with current technical knowledge, without ignoring social and institutional challenges. Suresh, 34, has travelled across India and has studied pollution-related issues in many rivers. He is a member of the Bureau of Indian Standards committees responsible for drafting the drinking water standards (IS 10500:1991) and the national water code. He has authored/co-authored books published by the CSE. One such book is Sewage Canal: How to Clean the Yamuna, a critique of the clean-up programmes in the Yamuna basin. Suresh is also the producer of the internationally acclaimed documentary on river pollution, Faecal Attraction
