The white, 50 metre long structure which wallows at the Gokasho Bay on southern coast of Japan, was developed by Japan Marine Science and Technology Centre, or Jamstec and is a 1,000 tonne tethered barge and a base for leading-edge research into harnessing energy from the ocean. After more than 20 years of study, Jamstec researchers say they have developed the technology to make wave energy systems commercially viable sources of power for limited uses.
