Black smoke from the vehicular traffic is quite the biggest source of air pollution in the Dhaka city. According to the police, 70 per cent of the vehicles on the roads are responsible for 90 per cent of the pollution in the city. That being so, it is not surprising to learn that the second phase of the anti-pollution drive is now underway under the auspices of the Department of Environment. This long-term endeavour is financed by the World Bank under its three year "Air Quality Management Project". (editorial)
