Thermal plant on clean-up drive

Bokaro, Aug. 19: Bokaro Thermal Power Station is on a serious mission to clean up its act and ensure zero-discharge of harmful effluents into the open and nearby river with the management now hopeful of achieving its target by early 2011. In the face of a continuing public outcry, including a series of demonstrations in the recent past, BTPS management has decided to add another Rs 50 crore to its Rs 300 crore fund for the clean-up exercise that is aimed at zero-discharge of pollutants that are posing a serious threat to lakhs of people of residing in the area in addition to adversely effecting the lifespan of crops, plants and marine life. BTPS chief engineer J.K Singh, who is monitoring day to day progress of the project, said he was satisfied with the pace of work and was hoping to complete the effort before the deadline.
