Despite its flourishing agriculture and remarkable progress in allied industries like poultry and farming, Punjab has earned the dubious distinction of converting a large part of its farm workers into bonded labourers. It is surprising that a state which excels in agriculture and contributes millions of tonnes of grain to the central pool, should witness a late resurgence of a neo-feudal order.
