Thirty states have violated new ozone standard

At least 30 states and the District of Columbia have already violated the new federal air-quality standards issued last summer, "signaling that 'we could be in for a terrible summer of smog,' says Alfred Munzer of the American Lung Association"In June 97 , the US EPA lowered the federal ozone standard from 0.12 parts per million averaged over a one-hour period to 0.08 ppm averaged over an eight-hour period.
