Illegal felling of trees in the Garampani and Tengani forest reserves of Golaghat district of Assam over the last three years or so has posed a serious threat to the forest cover in the district. Indulging in this criminal activity are a group of timber traders, it has been alleged. Demands have been raised that the authorities concerned take immediate steps to preserve the forest wealth of the district.
