Threat to wetland : Early Birds organizes meetings near Deepor beel

Early Birds, a city based organization for conservation of nature had recently organized a series of meetings at schools near Deepor beel, the lone Ramsar site in the State. The first meeting was held at the Parijat Academy a high school for the downtrodden students of the society at Pamohi recently in co ordination with Assam Science Technology and Environment Council. This was stated in a press release. Moloy Baruah, president Early Birds spoke at length on the various issues of the crisis faced by the Deepor beel and other wetlands of the State and also its way outs. On the occasion a book titled Adrabhumir shankat aru anusanggik bisoy was released by Uttam Teron, founder of the school. Ms Purnima Sarma, vice president and Sheikh Noor Zaman, Assistant secretary also deliberated their speech on the issue. The second meeting of the series was held at Deshobhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Middle English School, village Chakardoo on the bank of Deepor. Moloy Baruah and Zaman initiated the discussions with students where a few local elderly citizens including Laxman Terron, a well known nature activist was also present. Meanwhile wetlands and its root cause of crisis including future of migratory birds, and various allied issues like cause of dwindling number of vulture and adjutant stork, future of wetland in the State in the world perspective had been discussed by the president of Early Birds among other issues. The members were presented a copy of the book published with the help of ASTEC. The meetings was presided over by Atindra Dutta, Mayur Plaban Baruah, Sajib Das, Angsuman Pathak and Ms Dipali Bora, release stated.
