The Municipal Corporation is all set to ease the traffic situation of the city with three new paid parking lots in Industrial Area, Phase I. This would ease the problem of parking that is presently being faced by visitors to the area. The parking lots would come up near the poultry farm, behind the dairy farm and near the parking area allocated for trucks. The parking lots have already become functional on a temporary basis. However, the final approval has been sought from the Finance and Contract Committee. The issue will be taken up during the meeting to be held soon. With the setting up of the Centra Mall, a lot of chaos was witnessed on the roads in the Industrial Area. Due to inadequate parking space in the mall, people could be seen parking their vehicles on the road causing traffic jams. Recently, parking on the roadside was banned and vehicles found there were issued challans. According to officials, security issues were also a major concern. It was felt that, in the wake of the recent bomb blasts, stringent security measures needed to be taken. Since there was no check on the people parking their vehicles on the roads, it was increasingly being felt that there was a mishap waiting to take place. Due to the persisting chaos as well as security concerns, a need was felt to have the parking lots. Contractors would manage these lots and the guidelines for parking lots would be applicable here. Joint Commissioner T P S Phoolka says, "The parking lots have started functioning as some steps needed to be taken immediately to ease the traffic chaos. The matter would be discussed in the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee for getting final approval.' The MC, meanwhile, also has plans for widening the roads in the area. Work is likely to start once the monsoons end.
