Thunder shower and hail storm which hit the Awadh region of the State on late Sunday night claimed over half a dozen lives besides leaving several others injured in two separate incidents.
In the first case reported from Balrampur, a mother-son duo were killed and two others kids injured here when minaret of a mosque, just adjacent to their house, collapsed during the thunderstorm which struck the town late on Sunday night. Mehrunissa (30)along with her 8-year-old daughter Sana, 6-year-old son Mohisin and 2-years-old son Moin were sleeping in the their house in Dulhindeh village under the Mahrajganj Terai police station area of Balrampur when the minaret collapsed and they all were trapped in the debris.
Local residents who rushed out after the incident immediately informed the local police who later rushed with the rescue team. They removed the debris only to found Mehrunissa and Moin already dead while Sana and Mohisin were lying in serious condition. They rushed both to the district hospital. Both the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the police informed about the incident to Mehrunissa’s husband Waseem, working in Mumbai. Local residents later claimed that the mosque was in very bad shape and they informed about it to the administration but nothing has been done.
Meanwhile in another accident, driver of an Innova lost site due to dust storm and collided head-on with a truck coming from opposite side in which five occupants including four of a family were killed late in Sunday night. Reports said that Chatrapal, a resident of Sabzi Mandi area in Kanpur, went to attend a marriage ceremony in Amethi along with family members on Sundayevening. Later in the night when they were returning, the SUV carrying them was hit by a speedy truck on the Banda-Tanda national highway in Kasimpur locality of Jais in Rae Bareli. The five passengers traveling in the SUV, including the driver, were killed while three others were seriously injured. Besides Chatrapal (60), his brother Rampal (55), Rampal’s wife Shanti (50), his son Hariprasad aka Nanhu (25) and the driver identified as Guddu were killed in the mishap. The three, who were seriously injured, were rushed to a trauma centre (Lucknow) after a primary treatment at a district hospital in Raebareli, after their condition have been found to be `critical’ by the doctors.
