"Tilonia now calls itself the Barefoot College," says Bunker Roy, founder director fo the centre. "By setting an example it has proved that urban trained experts and professionals can easily be replaced by para-professionals from the vilalge who have never been to college. Training villagers to maintain handpumps, construct with the use of traditional materials and install and run solar power generating systems are some of the courses on offer at the centre's "Barefoot College" for the rural untrained.
