Deputy Conservator of Forest R K Singh and V T Thomas made a spot visit on Monday afternoon to the coast of Makadshew-Polem in Canacona, to get a first hand knowledge of the alleged plunder of the forest produce. The officials had acted on a report in Herald on Sunday, which had highlighted large scale smuggling of timber from the coast of Makadshew. It is learnt that the visit of the forest officer from Margao, who was accompanied by Canacona Range forest Officer Subash Henriques and other forest officials, was well over 48 hours after the receipt of the first information and on his visit, Singh could only find the leftover of some twigs of teakwood at the Makadshew coast.
