The illegal smuggling of timber from the lower parts of Buner to Swabi and Mardan districts of Pakistan has once again gained momentum and officials of the law-enforcement agencies and high-ups of the Forest Department are also involved in the activity. A survey conducted by Dawn revealed that under the Environmental Rehibiliation Project (ERP) millions of rupees of aid donor agencies have been spent on the plantation of various kind of saplings in the area during the last few years to promote forestation but despite that the law-enforcement agencies' authorities and officials of the Forest Department allow cutting of trees and smuggling of timber after taking their share from the business.
