Since the forest patrolling team has ceased to function owing to Maoist threats, timber smuggling is rampant in the eastern forest belt of Udayapur district (Nepal). Smugglers from Saptari and Sunsari districts and also those from the Indian Bihar state are busy smuggling timber from various forests of Rampur VDC in broad daylight.
