With very little fanfare, the White House recently released a three-paragraph statement announcing the formal transfer of the New World Mine Site to the United States Forest Service. Thus ended, officially and happily, a four-year struggle to prevent a Canadian mining company and its American subsidiary from building an environmentally treacherous gold mine near the border of Yellowstone National Park.
