The Tamil Nadu Afforestation Programme (TAP), the watershed-based development programme for villages abutting forests, carried out by the Forest department since April 1997, has improved the rapport of the foresters with those living in and around forest areas.As part of the programme the department has carried out watershed development programmes in 400 villages. The target of the programme is to cover 1,000 villages over a period of five years.
