TNPL move to use captive plantation of eucalyptus

The Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd. (TNPL) is in discussions with Tamil Nadu Forest Corporation to raise eucalyptus plantations to meet a part of its raw material requirement, according to Mr. A Velliangiri, Director (Finance), TNPL. The move is in line with the company's initiative in environment conservation and sustainable utilisation of resources, he said. Its primary raw material, bagasse, is a sugarcane waste, to manufacture paper. Use of timber, the conventional raw material would have involved denudation of 30,000 hectares per year to produce its annual output of 1,80,000 tonnes of paper.
