Toilets in all Govt schools before new academic session begins

Toilets will be constructed in all Government schools before start of new academic session. Apart from School Education Department, Tribal Welfare, Urban Development departments, public undertakings, Mandi Board, Laghu Udyog Nigam and Central PSUs are extending financial assistance for this. Private-public participation will be encouraged. Assistance will also be sought from MP and MLA funds.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while reviewing progress of construction of school toilets here on Tuesday, directed to pay special attention to quality in their construction and maintenance. He said that priority should be attached to maintenance and monitoring. The Chief Minister stressed the need for continuing construction of toilets on a war-footing and ensure institutional arrangements for their annual maintenance. The Chief Minister said that every child has the right to live in healthy atmosphere.
The meeting was informed that about 50 thousand toilets will be constructed by June 2015. Concerning departments and public undertakings have completed process of sanctioning amounts and fixing construction agencies. Designs of toilets have also been approved. Cooperation of Central PSUs is also being sought in construction of toilets. Petroleum Corporation of India, Coal India Limited, Mining Ministry, Petroleum Ministry, MOIL Limited, MSTC Limited, National Hydro Power Corporation, NTPC, IEC, National Fertilisers Limited are cooperating in construction of about 20 thousand toilets.
School Education Minister Paras Jain, Chief Secretary Anthony de Sa, Additional Chief Secretary School Education SR Mohanthy and Principal Secretaries of concerning departments were present on the occasion.
