Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara has added momentum to auto-industry trend toward more environmentally friendly trucks and buses with a recent demand that diesel-powered vehicle makers increase efforts to reduce exhaust emission. The seven manufacturers concerned responded by saying that they were stepping up development of technology to reduce the particulate emissions from diesel engines.
