Tornado lashes 15 villages

injured and 600 houses damaged as a tornado lashed 15 villages of three unions of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar Thursday afternoon. Villagers said the string wind blew over the villages of Jaifarnagar, west Juri and east Juri unions at about 2:30 pm Thursday, resulting in heavy losses to houses and trees. A number of injured people were admitted to the Kulaura Upazila Health Complex. Several hundred people of Basirpur, Krishnanagar, Jaifar-nagar, Noyagram, Shimultola, Belagaon, Sunapur and north Jangirai were seen living in the open as their houses were damaged by the tornado. Some people said their cattle and poultry birds were killed. MA Mumit Ashuk, chairman of west Juri union parishad, Gias Uddin, chairman of east Juri union parishad and Musleh Uddin, chairman of Jaifarnagar UP said about 600 houses of their areas were damaged. Juri upazila nirbahi officer Nazrul Islam Sarker visited the affected villages and said the upazila administration sought cash money and CI sheet from the district administration to help the people rebuild their homes. Moulvibazar deputy commissioner Alkama Siddiquee said relief materials including cash money were sanctioned for tornado hit Juri villages. He said the tornado caused massive damage to houses in the villages.
